Dataset Dissolve

Merges adjacent polygons, lines, or regions that have the same value for a specified field.

Procedure

1. Choose Dataset > Dissolve Dataset. The Dataset Dissolve dialog box will display.
2. Select the datasource that stores the dataset in the Datasource list.
3. Select the dataset that contains the objects you want to dissolve in the Dataset list.
4. Select the dissolve field in the Field list.
5. Click OK.

Notes

• Applies to line datasets and region datasets.
• The dissolve field is the field having the same value.
• Conditions: (1) The objects to be dissolved must have a dissolve field. (2) For regions, they must intersect or be adjacent. For lines, an endpoint of a line must be coincident with that of another line.
• The field value of the new object retains that of the object whose SmID is the smallest of the objects dissolved.
