New Dataset
Creates a dataset or many datasets in a batch mode. You can
create: point dataset, line dataset, region dataset, GIS dataset,
text dataset, ECW dataset, and MrSID dataset.
Procedure
Create Point (Line, Region, Text, CAD, route) Dataset
- Choose Dataset > New Dataset. The New Dataset dialog box
will display.
- Select Point (Line, Region, Text, CAD) dataset in the dataset
type list box.
- Click the Dataset Name list to type a name for the
dataset.
- Select target datasource from the dropdown list in the Target
Datasource list to save the new dataset.
- Select whether to add the new dataset to the map window in the
Add to Layer list.
- Select a encoding mode from the dropdown list in the Encoding
Mode list.
- Repeat step 3 to 6 to create other datasets.
- Click OK.
Create ECW (Mrsid) Dataset
- Choose Dataset > New Dataset. The New Dataset dialog box
will display.
- Select ECW (Mrsid) dataset in the dataset type list box.
- Click the Related File button or double-click the list box, and
then the Open dialog box will display.
- Navigate to the location of the file, and then Click Open.
- Select target datasource from the dropdown list in the Target
Datasource list to save the new dataset.
- Select whether to add your new dataset to the map window in the
Add to Layer list.
- For a Mrsid dataset, set a password for it in the Password
list.
- Repeat step 3 to 7 to create other datasets.
- Click OK.
Create Mixed Batch Datasets
Creates several kinds of datasets one time by this option.
This operation is similar to creating a point (line, region,
text, CAD) dataset except adding a Dataset Type list in the list
box for you to choose datasets' type.
Create New Dataset from Template
Creates more than one dataset with the same table structure one
time.
- Choose Dataset > New Dataset. The New Dataset dialog box
will display.
- Select From Template in the dataset type list box.
- Type a name for the new dataset in the Dataset Name list of the
list box.
- Select the target datasource in the Target Datasource list in
which to put the new dataset.
- Select the datasource that contains the template dataset in the
Template Datasource list.
- Select the dataset that will be act as a template in the
Template Dataset list.
- Repeat step 3 to 6 to create other datasets.
- Click OK.
Create Tabular Datasets
Selects any vector dataset in the current workspace as a
template and creates more than one tabular dataset one time.
- Choose Dataset > New Dataset. The New Dataset dialog box
will be displayed.
- Select Tabular dataset in the dataset type list box.
- Type a name for the new dataset in the Dataset Name list.
- Select the target datasource in the Target Datasource list to
save the new dataset.
- Select the datasource that contains the template dataset in the
Template Datasource list.
- Select the dataset that will be act as a template in the
Template Dataset list. If you select nothing in the list, the new
tabular dataset will only contains smID and smUserID.
- Repeat step 3 to 6 to create other datasets.
- Click OK.
Other way to access New Dataset
Select the datasource to store the new dataset in Workspace
Manager and click New Dataset on the shortcut menu.
Notes
- A dataset can only contain objects with the same type except
that a CAD dataset can contain objects of various types.
- Rules for naming datasets: (a) The name can only contain
Chinese Characters, English letters, numbers and underlines; and it
can not start with a number, underline and "sm". (b) The length of
a name can not be zero and can be no longer than 30. (c) The
name can not contain illegal character. (d) It can not collide with
the key fields of each database.
